Day care

Day care centers in the Netherlands are professionally run and employ fully qualified childcare staff. All childcare centers must comply with a strict standard of quality according to Dutch law to ensure a safe and healthy environment for your children.

General information

When you arrange the child care for your children, there are a few options to keep in mind.
Children from 0-4 years can be looked after in a day care where they can stay for up to 10 hours a day. Children from 4-12 years can go to an after-school care (called ‘BSO’)

It is also possible to put the care of your children in the hands of a childminder; at your own home or theirs. This person will usually look after a few children of young age at the same time.
Nanny services are not very common in the Netherlands, especially in our part of the country. There are a few, but their available hours will therefore be limited.

One of the bigger national organizations is Humankind.nl day care which can give information on international day care centers in your area:

Benefits

If your children go to day care or are under the care of a certified childminder, then you are most likely eligible for a childcare allowance. Childcare is a subsidy to help cover the costs of childcare. The height of the subsidy depends on your income and other conditions need to be met. For more information please click here.
